Fast, slow, fast, slow... (Kilala.nl (Cailin Coilleach)) by Cailin Coilleach

Obviously our lives have changed a lot now that Dana's here and with all of the changes our professional lives have gone through. After seven weeks it seems that things are finally starting to ebb out though and there's a semblence of routine to our days. Unfortunately one part of said routine is that I spend way less time on the web and thus my journal gets neglected a little bit. So here's another bulk update :)

Last Friday was killer =_= I'd been making a few overhours left and right all week, but I'd decided to compensate these hours on Friday since we had some visitors coming over to our house. Of course it's obvious that the one day I have an appointment that things get hectic at the office. Out of the five people supporting BoKS there were only two in and one of them (not me) was set to get on his plane to Spain. Of course we just -had- to get a nasty production issue that had me home by 1700 instead of 1400 :/ Mind you, I'm not complaining about the work itself, it's just that life sometimes sends you these planning curve balls.

In contrast the weekend was both relaxed and veeery slow. Saturday we took care of the house and went shopping in Amersfoort. Since we had a little bit of leeway in our spending money we could afford to get Marli a substantial renewal of her post-pregnancy wardrobe. I also got an awesome new coat from Scotch & Soda. I just noticed that S&S; has an outlet store in Batavia Stad, so maybe I ought to visit that place sometime soon :)

Sunday was the "slooow" part. Half of the day was spent watching the Spongebob marathon on Nickelodeon, with the other half being spent on the search for a new house. We're looking for a more modern streethouse, as opposed to the aging apartment we're living in. Almere may be Squaresville, but there's some affordable yet goodlooking houses over there.

What a weekend! Shopping, shopping, shopping (Kilala.nl (Cailin Coilleach)) by Cailin Coilleach

*phew* What a weekend...

Yesterday and today were spent shopping, shopping and shopping some more. We bought at least four hundred euros on essential baby stuff, like clothing, other textiles and bathing goods. Aside from that we also went to check out some better fitting clothing for Marli, though that didn't turn out too well. Our lunch at Ikea was alright though :)

A great weekend with friends (Kilala.nl (Cailin Coilleach)) by Cailin Coilleach

So yeah, I played hooky a bit this weekend. I'm behind on my homework, but we decided to spend a lot of time with friends this weekend anyway. A good thing we did too!

On Friday we went to have dinner with Kaijuu at a wok restaurant in Amersfoort. Since the restaurant is in the same building as the railway station, we took the train (which was a nice change). The food was good, the company was better and I'm glad we got to talk to Kaijuu again. Sure, the last time was only a few weeks ago but it's good to keep your friend close :)

Saturday was rife with household tasks and I even managed to get some homework done before Peter and Wendy turned up. While they played Mario Party 8 with Marli, I fixed us all dinner (which was well-received; yay!). I finally showed them all my photographs from the trip to Japan and we ended the evening with some Wii Sports. The folks in the Ars gaming forum weren't lying when they said that casual or even non-gamers love those games! ^_^

Oddly enough, this morning I woke up hyperventilating. The last time was around four months ago, so my track record is improving ^_^; I guess this time it was due to my realization that I was way behind on my homework again. Instead of grabbing for the plastic bag, this time I mentally told the hyperventilation to go fsck itself and I fell back asleep. Nice!

Now... To wake up a little and then to tackle my big reading list for tomorrow!

EDIT (29/05):
Ironically, not two weeks later I woke up with that nasty, burning sensation again. This time it might've been due to me sleeping under my winter covers in summer though... *shrug*

A recap of our weekend (Kilala.nl (Cailin Coilleach)) by Cailin Coilleach

Just so you guys don't think we've been playing with our new Wii all weekend: we haven't :)

On Saturday I did the usual groceries and then spent most of my time -waiting- for the Wii to arrive :p Setting it up was rather easy, though I had to spend at least an hour fighting the Wifi settings. In the end it turns out that I forgot that I had MAC address filtering turned on, on our Airport Express base station. So all my struggling with the Wii were caused by me forgetting one simple setting ^_^;

The Wii itself is great. Just like everyone else, we've been having loads of fun just making new Miis. It's silly how much fun that is. We've also been playing Mario Party 8, which IMHO is one of the better installments of the series. At least it's better than MP5, or MP6 :D Also, the Wii Shopping Channel is a bit too addictive for me... So far I've bought two classic games that my mom used to like as well: Bubble Bobble and Kirby's Adventure.

Saturday evening was well spent with our bestest friend Menno :) We had a quick dinner at Burger King and then proceeded to our favourite cinema, Cinemec to see Iron Man. I'd been looking forward to this movie for ages and luckily it came through on its promis! Robert Downey Jr is a great Tony Stark and the special effects were great. The design of Iron Man looks great and the CGI looks damn near realistic!

On Sunday we went to visit my in-laws in Friesland. We did nothing special; just a nice hot afternoon in the yard. Dirk had the greatest barbecue meats though, as we're used to from him :)

Now that it's Monday I really ought to get my ass in gear and get started on that pile of homework. I haven't done anything in the past two weeks and it's starting to show D:

Crap... No groceries (Kilala.nl (Cailin Coilleach)) by Cailin Coilleach

Oh darn... I forgot that today all the shops in town would be closed, due to a national holiday. And I didn't get any groceries before we headed off to Anime 2008 either. This is going to be troublesome, 'cause tomorrow I'm expected at the office... How're we gonna do this? *ponders*

EDIT @1240:
My bad... Bevrijdingsdag (Liberation Day) isn't a day off -every- year. I got our groceries :)

More MST3k this weekend (Kilala.nl (Cailin Coilleach)) by Cailin Coilleach

A screencap from 12 to the moon
Today's the first day of class in the fourth semester. Because I'd gotten rid of all of my backlog on homework, I had loads of time free this weekend. Glee!

Since Marli is still getting used to her new job, I've taken most of the household work upon myself. I know I'd been bitching about her not doing much a few years ago, but this time around it's alright since it's not permanent. We agreed that she'd get a few more weeks to acclimatise and that she'll then pick up her chores again. Besides, the past few months she'd been a great help around the house :)

Aside from cleaning, hoovering, doing the dishes, folding laundry, washing more laundry and cooking, I've also wasted a lot of hours watching more MST3k. Ever since february I've been loving this stuff! ^_^

So far I've seen awful classics like:
* The amazing transparent man
* The sword and the dragon
* "Manos", the hands of fate (purported to be the worst movie of all time)
* Teenager strangler
* The beatniks

And I'm watching 12 to the moon right now. That's where the screencap above is from as well.

You know what's funny about MST3k? It makes all those horrible movies palatable! I would have never finished even one of these movies, had it not been for the wisecracking guy and his robots. Well, none but The sword and the dragon because that was a pretty badass Russian/Finnish movie :)

But now that it's Monday, I need to get back to work again. My last semester has started and it'll be a big workload until the end of the year.

EDIT:
For those who need a short introduction to the silliness of MST3k: Ten WTF? moments of MST3k. I especially like #4 and #3. ^_^

This weekend's plans (Punkadyne Labs (Punkwalrus))

I was going to the beach this weekend (yes, in late fall), but oddly enough, the group I was going with had too many members get sick. One had pneumonia, and one was out of work for weeks with whatever she had. Considering how susceptible I am to bacterial infections in the ENT and lungs department, I am glad I dodged that bullet. We're rescheduling for next year (yes, probably with winter). [info]ninjacooter? Get better, please. :)

I hope to get more of CR's stuff and my stuff swapped this weekend. Posted in: cr , move , room , weekend

I'm doing a little better, thankfully (Kilala.nl (Cailin Coilleach)) by Cailin Coilleach

The two main characters of Marrying the Mafia.
Hmmm... That was a good weekend and it's helped me on my way a little bit.

People always say that, when you're down in the dumps, it's great to work hard on something. Doing something useful really does make you feel better. Well, yesterday I spent all the time between 0900 and 1700 running around frantically preparing our house for our two guests for the night: Jimmy and Jasper. Groceries, market place, more groceries, cleaning, cleaning, more cleaning and folding five baskets of laundry. Marli really isn't someone for housework so I was -very- happy that she helped me out!

Jimmy (MK) and Jasper had rode their bikes from Den Bosch (60km) and Veldhoven (100km) over to Utrecht as part as a bet shall we say? They made it in one piece and they actually seemed pretty healthy at the end of the trip ^_^; We watched a great Korean flick called Marrying the mafia 2 and went to bed around 2300 since I was really broken :D

Today I was supposed to meet my dad in Lemmer around 1200, so we kicked J&J; out of the house around 1100 (which made me late). Fred and I were going to take his boat out on the IJsselmeer to relax a little. Since there was nearly no wind we just putted around on the engine for a few hours, getting sun burnt :D That was a -great- way to spend the day because we really didn't do -anything-. That is, until getting back to port which was when we needed to stow everything away neatly, including all the sails etc.

All in all, a weekend spent very well!

Oh the irony! Stand-by duty takes its revenge. (Kilala.nl (Cailin Coilleach)) by Cailin Coilleach

An iron owl.
This week I'm on stand-by duty for $CLIENT; my first whole week since two years. It's been quiet all week, with only two harmless calls in the early evenings. But wouldn't you know it? The one day that I had plans this week is fraught with problems and calls! Oh the irony :)

Got called at 2200, worked an hour. Got called at 0200, worked two and half hours. Got called at 1300, work for three hours. I'm beginning to see a pattern here! I bet I'll be called again around 1900, for four hours of work or something. We'll see... At least the pay's good :3
