Anyway, why the funny title? Well, I got spam in my inbox today that said that, and I thought it was coincidental that I just wrung my hands in glee over the Fall of the Enzite Bandit in a previous entry.
So, I have mixed news. The big major news of the days is I PASSED! Yay! Thanks to all those well wishers, I couldn't have done it without you. So today is officially a GOOD day! Also, I get to see the DC Rollergirls next Sunday in Dulles with Scarlet AND
takayla, so that will be cool... anyone else coming? Sept 6th at Dulles Expo Center. I got my iPhone case, which I had been waiting for, and now I can have my iPhone clipped to my belt. So far, I like it.
The next is kind of a bummer, BUT, I am NOT taking it personally. I will NOT be doing Opening Ceremonies for Katsucon. No, I was not fired, but they have a different con chair and programming director, and they thought the OC needed something more spruced up, which has been my goal for a long time. Sadly, they don't want me as Emcee. This may be an end of an era for me, since I have been doing stagework at cons since the early 1990s, and now I have no gig! I used to do Prune Bran, Strange Tea, Rocky Horror, art show auctioneer, cosplay halftime show, emcee for OC for both FanTek and Katsucon,as well as lots and lots of panels. Oh no! What will I do now at Katsucon? Relax? Hardly, I am doing staff suite grunt work, so I have some gig. I have been offered an "alumni" badge for quite some time now, but I currently feel kind of bad riding on Katsucon's dime and not doing any volunteer work (but may take them up on it years from now). I feel sad this has ended, and I will miss my audience, but it's less work, and I can focus on other things. This golden ride had to end someday, and I am grateful for the time I had. I wish Nick (the new programming head) the very best in the hard work ahead.

I am having a very stressful day, and maybe I just needed a break, but I got this scam e-mail saying they are from Wells Fargo Bank, "We have noticed that your Wells Fargo online account needs to be updated once again, please enter your online account information..." and so on. I am sure you all get these. I don't even have an account at Wells Fargo, but this is not a targeted scam. "Recently, we have found that many accounts were hacked." Hacked, eh? How professional.
The first thing that got me was the "Stop online payment" link, which, the rest of the letter does not say it's about an unauthorized payment but an account verification, so duh #1. The second "duh" is the link went to an address at "freaks-tattoo.com," and not some IP in hex like I usually get.
Man. Amateurs. :-P
or those people at Wells Fargo are sure progressive...:0

Isn't it weird how sometimes you get cravings for the oddest things? In my case, I'd been craving panfried spam of all things! o_O
I'd been following
this thread on the rising sales of spam in the US at Ars Technica, which had quickly derailed into less serious discussion. Oddly though, instead of dozens of people ragging on this lowest of meat-by-products (
Goody! Meat-by-products! (this one's for you Menno)), a lot of folks waxed lyrically on their love of spam. People were quick to reminisce the spam-meals cooked in their childhood, or to start drooling about Spam-ghetti, Spam-miches and Spam-fried-rice.
So I just had to make some spam and eggs this morning :)

Gorramn spammers! *grr* (Kilala.nl (Cailin Coilleach)) by Cailin Coilleach
Bastards...
The past week some spamming company has been using addresses from my Kilala.nl domain as their "Sent by" address. Of course this means that I'm getting the brunt of their spam-run, what with all the bounces and OORs coming back to me. Just this morning I've had >1000 e-mails thanks to those bastards.
All e-mail addresses start with the word
patrolparts, followed by a few additional letters. For example:
patrolpartseadih AT kilala.nl. All the bounces and such are caught by my catch-all mailbox and thus end up in my inbox. Luckily Mail.app flags them as spam, so I'm not -really- confronted with them. The only downside is that from time to time the mailbox goes over-quota.
When I make the final switch to DreamHost I plan on -not- using a catch-all box. It makes things a bit less flexible, but I don't think I'll be missing out on much. A few of my forum accounts may point to non-existent addresses, but that's easily solved.

Spam sucks donkey balls (Kilala.nl (Cailin Coilleach)) by Cailin Coilleach
Stupid spam e-mails... D: *grrr*
The past few days I've received a deluge of bounced e-mails because apparently people have started using my domain suffix for the "Sent by" line in their spam. Great. And it's not like I'm running an insecure e-mail server or whatev'... It's just that they think up random e-mail addresses inside my domain. Not much that I can do about that, is there? *sigh*
