More eastern European rock music! Gogol Bordello (Kilala.nl (Cailin Coilleach)) by Cailin Coilleach

The lead singer of Gogol Bordello
Last night my bestest buddy Menno came over for dinner and a few episodes of South Park. With him, he also brought a little treat for me :)

I already knew that I like rock music from the old communist countries in eastern Europe. In January I posted about Iva Nova and a few months before that I loved the music of Lyapis Trubetskoy. So yesterday, Menno treated me to a big, fat dose of Gogol Bordello (Wikipedia).

Apparently they're a New York based band with members from all over eastern Europe. Their music is self-described as gypsy punk, but I don't care what you call it: it rocks ^_^

Also check out this awesome set of photographs from one of their performances in the US. Looks like a great party!

How did this happen? (Punkadyne Labs (Punkwalrus))

I am no fanboy, but I was on Bjork’s new album half a year before it was released. And now the B-52’s have a new one coming out in March? Funplex?

How did I miss that?

So I listened to the single “FunPLex” from their MySpace, and it’s... the same stuff. Not that I dislike the same stuff, and I will most likely buy the album, But I kind of hoped for some evolution since “Cosmic Thing.”

“Funplex sounds like us, updated,” adds Fred Schneider. “It’s the B-52s now; or fifteen years from now.”

Nope. Well, not that single, at least. Posted in: b52s , rock
