An observation (Punkadyne Labs (Punkwalrus))

So I was recommended this artist based on my musical choices, and so I got a CD of an artist known as "Andrew W.K." for like $4 from Secondspin.com. I tell you one thing, this guy likes to party. Look at some of his track names:

1. It's Time To Party
2. Party Hard
8. Party Til You Puke

This guy has a hard-core, frat boy sound that is intense and yet not as jagged at punk or as serious as heavy metal. I kind of imagine this is some kind of hard core jock rock where shirtless young men, drunk on cheap beer, get into fights in a beach parking lot.

I like this remix with the Beastie Boys a little better, though. Posted in: andrew wk. music , remix

Attention Drag Queens: Shirley Bassey's still got class (Punkadyne Labs (Punkwalrus))

Dang, you may not like Pink, and maybe the old 60's Bond films are cheesy, but this is an awesome cover of Pink's "Get this Party Started." This gal is 70 -- SEVEN-TEE -- years old and still has this kind of voice and looks this good. She's most knows for singing "Goldfinger" and "Diamonds Are Forever," but she's been professionally singing for 50 years, and is still this strong.

I only hope I am this good looking at 70. Hell, I am not this good looking now, there is no hope! LOL.

For all my fag hag and diva friends... Mwah! darlings. :) Posted in: bond , drag queen , pink , remix , song , video

Even More On NiN, Remixes and Reason (The Dave Today (Albino Eatpod)) by Dave Starling

I finally finished my "cover remix" of Nine Inch Nails' The Hand That Feeds, which included spending some time learning how to get the mix and EQ to my liking. I started off using Recycle to create and slice the loops, and then dumped them into Dr. Rex loop players in Reason. After spending most of the time getting the arrangement similar to, but not exactly the same as, the original piece, I decided to see what was possible with some of the effects and filters in Reason. The vocals in this version are run through Scream Sound Destruction Units on the fuzz setting before going through an RV7000 reverb unit, and finally some minor equalisation. I'm pretty happy with the results.

Throughout the process I've been extremely impressed with the new features in Reason 3, especially the new M-Class mastering suite - the presets are great, and some excellent results can be had from tinkering with combi-suite that's provided.

More On NiN, Remixes and Reason (The Dave Today (Albino Eatpod)) by Dave Starling

I've spent the last four days working with Reason 3 to attempt to do some of Trent's work justice, and am starting to see some nice results. I began by remixing the components with a feel very similar to that of the original piece, with a few added bits here and there. In my not-so-humble opinion, it sounds pretty good. All I need to finish up is the last 30 seconds or so, and a little bit of level-tweaking and I think it'll be done.

However, I did have one moment of, shall we say, inspiration. I figured that now I'd become comfortable with the Reason 3 setup, about what it could do and what I could do with it then while I had a near-complete song I should try something different with it. This is the result - whilst I think the drums could do with some subtle level adjustments (and yes, the distortion on the drums is intentional - it's industrial-hardcore), and don't think it sounds too bad for my first proper remix. The flow of the song remains pretty faithful to the original, and I think that's something I'll play around with next.
