I am setting at my computer and all of a sudden I feel like I’m about 20 feet away. It is perhaps the strangest feeling I’ve ever had. No, I’ve never done drugs so that could be part of it. It feels like
my arms are extremely long and I’m typing on a keyboard very far away. Also, feels like the screen is super far-away but I can still see it alright. A fairly intense feeling of vertigo happens once in a while and my eyes keep going slightly in and out of focus. Once in a while I feel like everything is spinning.
How exactly does losing your mind feel?

Recent News (AsphaltBuffet) by Ben
It’s been a while since I really wrote much on here. The last few weeks have been incredibly busy for me and yet some of the best days of the past year. So many different things and new stuff going on.
- I moved during July to a new apartment. It’s about 7 miles further north than the last one and a 2BR. I’m living with a guy from work and it’s been pretty nice to have someone to at least talk to occasionally. I’m still trying to get my stuff unpacked though and that seems to be slower going than I’d like. So many things and it seems like so much less room. I need to figure out what stuff I don’t want and sell it or just give it away and then take some of the things I want to keep but not really here and get them back to Mom and Dad to store in the garage.
- Running sucks. I have slipped a lot and only do it occasionally recently. It’s something that I want to do since it’s good for me but when I don’t enjoy it, the activity is simply hard to get into. I managed to acquire a road bike last week though for a great price and I’m going to work on riding bike for some exercise. I think that it might work out better for my preferred style. The bike is a 15-speed Schwinn Continental II, built in 1978. Classic awesomeness
- Finally, the best news is Kendra. I feel like I match so well with her and the last month has been beyond any of my expectations. I haven’t had a non-long-distance relationship in probably around 6 years. I forgot exactly how wonderful it was. The times spent with her are great, the times apart tend to be filled with thoughts of the next time we can hang out. Our interests merge very well though and I think I’ve finally found what it is to be myself around someone I care this much about and be completely comfortable with that. Great times.
So, that’s the latest. There’s random other stuff too that I haven’t thought about putting on here or I just didn’t want to tell you about. If you want more info, just ask…

Lately I’ve been taking this route to run. It crosses roads a few more times than I want though. I’ve been thinking about running on some trails near the route I currently take. Updates will follow next week during my testing.
I think I’ll be repeating the running program for last week so that I can make sure I’m all set for the next stage. It’s still really hard for the running so extra practice will definitely help.

I shaved last week. Not all the facial hair is gone, but a lot. I’m working on the goatee sort of thing now. I’ve had some compliments that it looks better. We’ll see how it goes…

The running starts Monday. I held off last week so that I could pick up some shoes this weekend and something to listen to the podcast I mentioned before.
For shoes, I went downtown to Charlottesville Running Company. I’d gone with Gareth a few weeks ago and they just do a really thorough job at finding shoes that will work best for each individual. They recorded me walking on a treadmill on a DV Camera and then we watched it to make sure I didn’t have anything that needed to be corrected. He was also looking for foot flexibility and that sort of thing. The guy helping me out was about my size slightly taller but a little less at the gut. I left with a pair of PEARL iZUMi syncroFLOAT 2 running shoes.
I also picked up an iPod Shuffle to use for listening pleasure. It means I won’t be eating out for a week or two (that’s a good thing though) and that sacrifice will help push me to run so that I can use it. I got the 1GB green model. It’s been a few years since my old iPod was stolen. Comes with a clip on it so I just stick it on my shirt and hit the road to run.
Speaking of the actual running, I think I scoped out a path that I’ll be taking. The sidewalk nearby leads to a little wooded path-area that’s just west on Greenbriar. I’m not sure if I’ll run in the wooded area or just past it and make a circuit “around the block”. A Google Map image will definitely follow after a few runs help me see how far I can expect to go in the time frame I’m looking at (~25-30 minutes). Right now I’m hesitantly excited. I’ve never been much of a runner but I haven’t ever used a program that is intended for the non-runner to get into the habit. Expect an update Monday, it could very well be me just typing out a sore moan.
