Jern and Matt Cerf - Fall 2008. (chris@csoltis (cjs)) by Chris

Matt and Jaren Cerf produce&record; dance tracks and have become some of Trance/House music heros. Matt's unique production style and Jaren's Vocals made for one of Dance music's biggest productions of 2007. Light the skies.
We have been friends since I took on my dance music career in photography. They had just finished green screening a music video and had extra studio time.

I setup for an hour or two and had some fun!

Beatportal.com :Los Angeles claims USA's dance music crown (chris@csoltis (cjs)) by Chris

It's time to take the crown, to the underground. ;)
^ ^ ok ok, I just made that up.

http://www.beatportal.com/feed/item/los-angeles-claims-usas-dance-music-crown/

READ IT ALL:

As Hunter S. Thompson might say, Hollywood is a cruel and shallow money trench, a plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. There's also a negative side.

Ever since the booming 1930's movie industry, Hollywood's reputation has been double-sided.......

Björn and Jaime Davis. Wedding Reception. July 12, 2008. (chris@csoltis (cjs)) by Chris

Björn and Jaime are some of my best friends! I met Björn in 2005; October 8th to be exact. A dance party at Circus/Spundae in Hollywood. We had previously communicated online over a chat forum. Many a goodtimes we've had!!!!! A little over a year later, Björn met Jaime at the exact same venue.
They have just returned from Sweden, where family and friends wed them off.
A reception was held on Los Angeles as well, unfortunately; I do not have that many frequent flyer miles, I did not go to Scandinavia. ;)

THANK YOU!

The reception was held at a very nice reception hall at a venue in Topanga Canyon. I've put a few favorites on my flickr stream for viewing.

Heath and Madalena Long - June 24, 2008. (chris@csoltis (cjs)) by Chris

Some of my favorite shots from a great impromptu style wedding @ Redondo Beach. The reception was at a great hotel in the harbor: Hotel Portofino. It was a beautiful evening. After the pre-wedding setup, introductions and appetizers; The Ladies in one car and the Gentlemen in the other, we drove down to the spot, walked onto the beach, and started the ceremony.

Heath and Lena are friends of mine, her sister Joanna introduced us. She is in the blue dress.

I've added a few of my favorites for fun on my flickr stream

Shutter Paranoia (Punkadyne Labs (Punkwalrus))

I was reading yet another story about some poor photographer being hassled by authorities. While this has been a phenomena in the US for a while, much more since 9/11, in the UK it's been on the rise recently due to an ad campaign by the police. Unlike some slightly less paranoid campaigns from World War II, this has the citizens of the UK turning upon themselves.

This is what the terrorists want. It's how they get the name, "Terrorists." They promote and spread terror to disrupt people, governments, and countries they don't like, usually with terrorizing methods like bombs. Terror comes from the Latin word "terrere," which means to frighten or scare badly.

What concerns me is that these stories seem to bring out two facts:

1. Police don't know the law, and enforce based on personal feelings
2. If places are allowed to photograph us, but we're not allowed to photograph them, that's a very unfair advantage.

Here's some US examples exaggerated to the point of being silly:

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow… (a salmon of doubt (shade1978)) by David

So, we got a monster snowstorm here in Ohio this weekend. Columbus was hit hardest with just over 20 inches of snow, but we got dumped on here in Akron as well with 15” reported at the local airport.

My roommate has a snow blower so we didn’t have to break our backs shoveling out a ridiculously long driveway. Best. Invention. Ever.

Anyway, have some photos:

Crazy stuff, but we do seem to get most of our heaviest snows later in the winter. At any rate, we’ve had a proper snowstorm so now I’m definitely ready for spring. :)

Tab Dump - Long Weekend Edition (Martin Gordon's Blog (cptncelchu)) by Martin

Can't say I want to write anything too substantive on these links, but I do want to get them out there anyway because they're cluttering up my tab bar.

Monsters of the Programming World is a neat little poster anthropomorphizing common programming errors. I've been meaning to pick this up for our office.

Jeffrey Friedl has developed a Lightroom export plugin for Flickr. I haven't had a chance to test it out yet, as I've shamefully not uploaded any pictures to Flickr this year, but it should shave off a few clicks in my workflow if it works well enough.

Ken Rockwell on How To Afford Anything. The great thing about this article is that Ken isn't a personal finance guru, he's a photographer. This article isn't coming from a "I want to be rich" perspective but more from a "I want cool cameras" perspective, which appeals to me greater than the usual run-of-the-mill personal finance article.

Fraser Speirs on his photo editing workflow. Fraser uses Aperture, so his workflow is a bit more flexible than what is allowed (or rather suggested) by Lightroom. Still, some of his ideas carry across between any such application. I particularly enjoyed his rating process, something I currently do without much thought.

I'm working on listening to all of Fred Wilson's Top 10 Albums of the Year. Music recommendations from a VC, who would have thought? Fred's musical tastes are a bit off from mine and listening to his picks is an interesting experience. I haven't gotten through the entire list, but I did grab a copy of the Kings of Leon's Because of the Times, his number one pick. There are some songs I can't stand to listen to, and although the album as a whole isn't memorable, it is very catchy. That is, I can remember parts of songs but I can't identify which song it is or if it's the same part of another song. My biggest disappointment has to be the lyrical work. There's just not a whole lot going on there unfortunately.

A flickr slideshow of the jolly ol’ (Gilgamesh) by Eric Hutchins

England.  I’ve finally gotten around to processing the first batch of photos from my trip and posting them on my Flickr account.  Here’s a picture of the Yeoman Warder who led my tour of the Tower of London:

I’ve selected some of the better photos from the journey, and you can see a slideshow here.  I’ll be adding more from my trip later.

Rebel XTi/400D - First Shots (LtParis) by LTParis

After much debate on which camera to get (Rebel XT, XTi, 20D) I decided to go with the Rebel XTi after getting a huge discount through Dell. No complaints from me! I got the Rebel XTi with the Kit lens, a 50mm prime lens, and 2 2GB memory cards.

I took some new shots on this camera, hope you like them.
