More MST3k this weekend (Kilala.nl (Cailin Coilleach)) by Cailin Coilleach

A screencap from 12 to the moon
Today's the first day of class in the fourth semester. Because I'd gotten rid of all of my backlog on homework, I had loads of time free this weekend. Glee!

Since Marli is still getting used to her new job, I've taken most of the household work upon myself. I know I'd been bitching about her not doing much a few years ago, but this time around it's alright since it's not permanent. We agreed that she'd get a few more weeks to acclimatise and that she'll then pick up her chores again. Besides, the past few months she'd been a great help around the house :)

Aside from cleaning, hoovering, doing the dishes, folding laundry, washing more laundry and cooking, I've also wasted a lot of hours watching more MST3k. Ever since february I've been loving this stuff! ^_^

So far I've seen awful classics like:
* The amazing transparent man
* The sword and the dragon
* "Manos", the hands of fate (purported to be the worst movie of all time)
* Teenager strangler
* The beatniks

And I'm watching 12 to the moon right now. That's where the screencap above is from as well.

You know what's funny about MST3k? It makes all those horrible movies palatable! I would have never finished even one of these movies, had it not been for the wisecracking guy and his robots. Well, none but The sword and the dragon because that was a pretty badass Russian/Finnish movie :)

But now that it's Monday, I need to get back to work again. My last semester has started and it'll be a big workload until the end of the year.

EDIT:
For those who need a short introduction to the silliness of MST3k: Ten WTF? moments of MST3k. I especially like #4 and #3. ^_^

My MST3k deflowering (Kilala.nl (Cailin Coilleach)) by Cailin Coilleach

The cast from MST3k
Last night I finally got to see two shows that I've been hankering for, at the same time! Thanks to an offhanded remark in a thread about The Stig, I checked out YouTube for clips of Danger: Diabolik and of Mystery science theater 3000, aka MST3k. But the best came when I found clips combining the two! ^_^

You see, MST3k is a rather silly show with three guys wisecracking while watching horror/scifi B-movies. Sure, it's set on a space station and two of the guys are robots, but that's just fluff. What this show is, in essence, is what you get if you let any warm blooded bunch of guys watch awful movies! :)

Their puns have me cracking up, while I'm still able to enjoy this master piece of Italian cinema, that is Diabolik. Seriously, it like I'm watching me, Menno and Peter watch the movie :D

I know I'm -very- late to the party, since this show's final run was in 1999, but still. I'm loving it :)

Here's one of the funnier clips.

Good news, everyone. Mystery Science Theater 3000 is back... sorta (Punkadyne Labs (Punkwalrus))

It's now called, "CinematicTitanic."

Joel (who I always liked over Mike) is hosting new shows via DVD, and then download. This time, it's direct-from-net distribution of DRM-free DVDs and (soon) DRM-free downloads (Joel says that the delay for downloads is due to the right holders for for the movies they spoof worrying about piracy). They have a trailer up. From their press release:

"If you know people that are MST3K-curious, please let them know this– that the original cast of the show has landed here and are making a shimmery new movie riffing experience."

Cinematic Titanic is a feature length movie riffing show and is an artist owned and operated venture created by Joel Hodgson, the creator of the Peabody award-winning Mystery Science Theatre 3000. Cinematic Titanic features the original cast and writers of MST3K, which is Hodgson (Joel Robinson), Trace Beaulieu (Crow), and J. Elvis Weinstein (Tom Servo). Filling out the ensemble is Mary Jo Pehl (Pearl Forrester) and Frank Conniff (TV’s Frank).

No Dr. Clayton Forrester, whom was also a favorite for the original, original show back on the Comedy Channel in the early 90s. Posted in: cinematic titanic , mst3k
