What does your name mean? (Stonetable) by Adam

Snagged from eeknight:

What Adam Means

You are usually the best at everything … you strive for perfection.

You are confident, authoritative, and aggressive.

You have the classic “Type A” personality.

You are balanced, orderly, and organized. You like your ducks in a row.

You are powerful and competent, especially in the workplace.

People can see you as stubborn and headstrong. You definitely have a dominant personality.

You are confident, self assured, and capable. You are not easily intimidated.

You master any and all skills easily. You don’t have to work hard for what you want.

You make your life out to be exactly how you want it. And you’ll knock down anyone who gets in your way!

What’s Your Name’s Hidden Meaning?
I don’t know about that hard work part. Some days it feels like all I do is work. I’m definitely not organized, although I wish I were!

Meme: Things I’ve done (Stonetable) by Adam

  • Post 3 things you’ve done in your lifetime that you don’t think anybody else on your friends list has done.
  • See if anybody else responds with “I’ve done that.” If they have, you need to add another! (2.b., 2.c., etc…)
  • Have your friends cut & paste this into their journal to see what unique things they’ve done in their life.

I have:

1. Been on the set of Saturday Night Live during rehearsals

When I was a consultant, I worked at NBC headquarters in New York City. One afternoon, shortly before New Years Eve 2000, one of the NBC staff took me down to the set and gave me a brief tour while Blink 182 was practicing.

2. Worked in a meat processing plant

One of the odd jobs I worked while doing temp work. I showed up that evening for the “interview” and was promptly ushered to the killing floor to clean/scrub the equipment, walls, ceilings and floor. I only worked the one night but it took me six months to eat meat again.

3. Rode in an airplane with the Chicago White Sox

When I was seven or so, my brother was in the hospital at the University of Minnesota for a kidney transplant (his first, when he was two). They needed to get me up there quickly and someone managed to get me on a flight with the Chicago White Sox. I sat across the isle from Carlton Fisk, my favorite White Sox player of all time.

my cynical new year (Never melts (meef)) by jen

So Tessie was complaining that everyone was so cheery and happy about their new year post and I'm bored looking for something to occupy my thoughts for a few minutse so I thought I'd fill it out just being myself, because there's nothing "perky" or "too upbeat" about me and those of you who know this firsthand better shut the hell up already.

Here goes:

1. What did you do in 2007 that you’d never done before?

Got pregnant and had a baby. No.. wait... uh.. well they weren't ALL third children. I'm sure I did something mundane in a different way! Like brushed my teeth with my left hand while wearing red candy cane socks, or cooking a turkey in a different pan, or putting the cookie trays in the oven with the little edge facing the other way... Why do all these things have to do with food?

2. Did you keep your new year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year?

No, I am such a weak, self destructive little pill. I don't really make resolutions. Unless you count those "I'm going to resolve to eat less and exercise more, except I'm going to start doing it in MARCH so people don't think 'oh, she's another one with those resolutions!'" type.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?

Who is closer to me than myself?

At least one person in my close knit group of mommy-friends, who are SO CLOSE KNIT I can think of them off the top of my head! We shouldn't hang out so much or we'll just keep having babies into oblivion.

4. Did anyone close to you die?

Someone I know/am related to died... but I wouldn't say we were close. Not that I disliked this person at all.. quite the opposite.

5. What countries did you visit?

Just the one, really.

6. What would you like to have in 2008 that you lacked in 2007?

I'd like to have more negative gravity, and more money, and more gummi bears.

7. What dates from 2007 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?

October 2. Because I can't think of any other date I'll remember.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?

Oh there she goes again with that "giving birth" crap. I went into labor without having to be induced?

9. What was your biggest failure?

The whole "don't eat so much, fatass" and "don't spend so much money" thing. You know, the usual.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?

mmm... not other than the usual.

11. What was the best thing you bought?

My camera. I wish I could go back in time and take some really good photos of.. well.. a lot of things.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?

L, becasue she puts up with D and yelling and unfairness and never complains (much) and is still on top of things because she can read my mind, I swear.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?

I'm sure I've thought "oh my god I cannot believe you just did that!" but I can't recall any specific incidences.

14. Where did most of your money go?

house projects. Painting and furniture and stuff where needed. I can't say it's been a bad thing.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?

my new baby, my new camera, my new bedroom. I'm so mundane.

16. What song will always remind you of 2007?

I hate these fucking music questions.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:

a) happier or sadder? The same
b) thinner or fatter? Probably fatter
c) richer or poorer? Probably more in debt

18. What do you wish you’d done more of?

Exercise. *snort*

19. What do you wish you’d done less of?

Eating and Yelling

20. How did you spend Christmas?

Here, aunt's, mother's, in laws'. Lots of driving for those of us with the kids! whee!

21. Did you fall in love in 2007?

Yes, with J, who is the best baby ever.

22. What was your favorite TV program?

I have the attention span of a gnat, and did not really watch any new tv this year. I watch reruns and childrens' television.

23. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?

No, but I hate them MORE now.

24. What was the best book you read?

The only book I remember reading this year was Thinner, because I'd never read it and picked it up when I went for my 3 hr glucose test. It was so amusingly BAD that I had to finish it, and then it was a total "wtf?" but at least it ended pretty quietly.

25. What was your greatest musical discovery?

That no matter how much you want your kids to listen to cool or enlightened classic rock, they will still prefer the one with little kids singing over a piano that gives you flashbacks to 3rd grad chorus.

26. What did you want and get?

I wanted a dslr, and I got one.

27. What did you want and not get?

I wanted the calvin collection but for the 3rd year I did not get it as a gift and refuse to spend $80 on myself.

28. What was your favorite film of this year?

I have no idea other than I find it endearing that my father calls movies "pictures" as in "did you see that picture with that guy who played that other guy in that show once??"

29. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?

I was 34. I went out to dinner with D and we were back in less than 2 hours. It FELT a lot longer than that. We left the kids with my MIL and they were slack jawed in shock when we came back so soon. Darn.

30. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?

Less fast food, more personal chefs?

31. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2007?

"I threw out all my clothes to force myself to buy more, but then never bought more, thusly wore same pair of blue jeans and black v neck shirt till I spilled bleach on it and had to settle for too-small, faded red one"

32. What kept you sane?

chickenfries

33. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?

I don't have any teenybopper crushes on anyone. I don't care if YOU do, but I don't, and I don't care that you don't believe me, but I really just don't care about "celebrities," so I don't.

34. What political issue stirred you the most?

That no one has tried to vaporize our "leader"

35. Who did you miss?

the babies in all these pictures I'm uploading to print. and my little black puppy.

36. Who was the best new person you met?

J, and he was literally new, too!

37. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2007.

Less internet, more housework.

38. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.

I hate this shit. I don't know! Posted in: meme , new year

youyou (Never melts (meef)) by jen

Devan tagged me for a meme in which you list seven things about yourself. And I was lazy so I copied this whole paragraph from her blog.

Here are the rules: Each player starts with 7 random facts/habits about themselves. People who are tagged need to write on their own blog about their seven things, as well as these rules. You need to choose 7 people to get tagged and list their names. Don’t forget to leave them a comment telling them that they have been tagged and to read your blog!

1. I don't like driving right now because The Belly is currently right up against the bottom of the wheel. With my son this wasn't so much a problem. With my daughter, she was always UP and OUT and it was a VERY BIG PROBLEM, but fortunately I never had anywhere to go. When the transmission died on my car, my mother would stop and pick me up on her way to work and then I'd take her car - if I had someplace to go that day. Her car has a steering tilt that was almost set like a bus, and I didn't touch it because I didn't want to hear her, but it worked nicely.

2. I can go off on a tangent about just about ANYTHING...

3. Less than 48 hours after the birth of my first child, I was at a Subaru dealership picking up my car which had (free!) transmission replacement. Thank goodness for warranties! The woman at the reception desk wanted me to go outside and get my husband so she could yell at him. Even better was I didn't want to wait for them to find someone to pick up the car, so I told her I'd just walk around the side of the building. In the dark. Hee.

4. I get really gung ho about things and then sometimes just get bored with them soon after. There are a few things where that hasn't been the case, but it's still an annoying habit.

5. Once I decide I want to buy something, and we commit to spending the money, I want it RIGHT NOW. I am not the kind of person that will spend days weighing pros and cons. I am the kind of person who will look up a bunch of options online and just narrow them down in my head and present the husband with 1 or 2 choices and then just run with it. (then I order it, wait anxiously for it to come, and then don't bother to take it out of the box. The thrill has passed. I'll do it later.. maybe when the kids are sleeping.)

6. I am always completely neurotic about SOMETHING. Like the kids. Before them, it was the dog. Before the dog, you'd think I'd have led a happy carefree life, but no, I worried about a stuffed bull I got at the dollar store once...

7. I hate running errands where I'll spend more time in the car than the place. I hate stop and go errands, 50 places on one trip that involve in and out of the car in short bursts. Lucky for me there is online postage!

And I hate tagging people! Either you've already done it, or please feel free do do it and link me... I really do want to see... I'm not just saying that, honest... yes that means you over there... come on... ever notice no one tags the woman with the newborn? Posted in: meme , seven random facts

It's not, but swistle posted a question and I thought I'd answer it here so I didn't have to actually think of something to write here today. One year ago: D was not yet 7 mos old and barely sitting on his own. He also had not much hair. L was much smaller, and not as verbal. I apparently had just given her an awful haircut. She was just starting to talk a lot, I remember this now. She was Posted in: kids , meme , one year , pictures

busted! 5 things you don't know about me (Never melts (meef)) by jen

I guess I'll post this because I've been slacking off :) 1. I want a whole gaggle of children, but the husband and New Car Fund won't allow that. I fantasize that he suddenly hits the jackpot in one of his endeavors and our life changes and we can do that. 2. I have an addictive personality with regards to food, shopping and the internet.
