Two ladies at midnight (Kilala.nl (Cailin Coilleach)) by Cailin Coilleach
Midnight is Dana's last diaper change and meal for the night. The next one will be somewhere in the morning. Tonight was one of the few occasions where Marli didn't have to wake me and I appeared in the living room out of my own. This prompted a puzzled look from her.
Me:
Oh, but there's one very good reason for me to be up at this ungodly hour!
Her:
*pouty* Only one?
Me:
Honey, Dana's the only one I will interrupt my sleep for and to wake up. You're the only one I need to go back to sleep again.
They both mean the world to me :)

Aw yeah! I knew she could do it!
Back in October Marlijne applied for a job as railway inspector with the dutch national railways. Back then she was turned down for the job at the final stage. However, neither Marli nor her mother (who's worked at the NS for decades) could let things rest, so they set things to work at various departments across the Netherlands.
Lo and behold! Marli's resume filtered down to Amsterdam, who invited her down for a recruitment day. They liked her resume a lot and thought she's make a nice addition to the group of people who applied to adverts and such. The job everyone was after:
service trainee, which boils down to the front-line jobs at railway stations.
Well... After a long day of being scrutinized, tested, shrunk (that's what shrinks do, right?) and turned inside out she got the job! The local management was very enthused about Marlijne and her "disarming" charm as one called it. They did worry slightly about her overweight (more for her sake, than for the NS's), but everyone agreed that that's something we could work on.
She'll start on April first and by then she'll already have her uniform etc. The uniform is being tailored to her measurements, as they do for all of the folks who can't wear confection sized uniforms.
I'm so proud! I knew she could do it :)

It's such a shame, but Marli didn't get the job she was after.
The past two weeks she's been part of the
dutch national railway's recruitment process for railway inspectors. She got through the first meeting with flying colours. The interview and the roleplaying sessions all went off without a hitch. The second and third meetings went quite well as well, so she was about 75% along the way.
Unfortunately the board decided that she would probably not handle hostile situations very well (buckling under stress), so they decided not to take her on. Damn! I think she was more disappointed about the fact that her past has caught up with her again, than that she didn't get the job. Nine years of being picked on and shunned at school will get most people to buckle under hostility ;_;
Still. She has every right to be proud of herself! Apparently there was a lot in her that the railways -did- like, so there's no reason to think that other companies won't. Better luck next time!

Yesterday Marli took longer to get home, up to the point that I'd started to get worried. What the heck might take her so long that she isn't home within half an hour after leaving work? Fret-fret, OMG what if something happened? Stuff like that...
Well, of course my worrying was for nothing as she was perfectly alright. Better than even, because she'd been out shopping for new clothes. Of course, now that she works at a clothing store, that in itself isn't very odd anymore. What -was- remarkable was that she A) shopped at a different store and B) shopped for something a little more
feisty ^_^
Being a plus-sized woman, Marli isn't very confident about clothes that are tight and/or revealing. Some would say rightly so, because most people look strangely upon "fat" people not wearing stuff that resembles a bungalow tent.
You may imagine my surprise when she ducked into the bedroom and later emerged in her new threads. Seriously, I love to see her wear clothes like these (with punky influences) and IMHO they're perfectly suitable for going out for drinks. Now all we gotta do is actually go out for drinks ^_^;;
The picture doesn't show it properly, but that skirt's got all kinds of details that I absolutely love. A zipper here, a pocket there and ruffles and pleats along the bottom. Very cute!
Anywho: I'm very proud of her for daring to take the step. Buying clothes like these takes a lot of confidence and it's great to see that she's coming to grips with her own physique.

Tomorrow's officially Marli's birthday. We celebrated it last Sunday with all of our friends and family, which was awesome. We also part-celebrated my birthday as well, though that was back in June. We got some absolutely lovely presents from everyone, so thankyouthankyouthankyou to everyone!
Our collective parents+partners pitched in together, to buy Marlijne the latest Harry Potter Lego castle. She's absolutely nuts about Harry Potter Lego, so there you go :) I have to say that it -is- a lovely boxset!
And one never outgrows Lego!
