The “Next” Best Present: The Digital Photo Keychain (All Things Chill (Special*Dark)) by Spec

coby digital keychain

Introducing the Coby 1.5-Inch Digital Photo Key Chain. I just ordered this from Amazon to gauge on whether or not this would be a good Christmas (yes, I’m already working my way down the list) present for my parents, who incidentally, have been lucky enough to get a call from yours truly TWICE on Thanksgiving (lol). I’ve read the reviews and it looks easy to use and durable (well, durable enough for a $20 electronic device that sits on a keychain).

1.5-inch CSTN LCD full-color display; stores over 60 photos
Displays JPEG, GIF, and BMP image files
USB port for fast file transfers
Built-in rechargeable Lithium-ion battery
Product Dimensions: 3 x 2 x 3 inches ; 4.8 ounces

Sure, if someone asks you “OH HAY MAN, WHAT’S YOUR GF/BF/DOG/GIRAFFE LOOK LIKE?!?!??!” you could always whip out your phone, but that takes WAAAYYYYY too long. LOL. Plus it’s a “nobody else has it” gadget, which always scores points in my book of life. Hee hee.

What I like about this keychain versus all the other budget ones is that the screen vs. overall size is relatively balanced. You’ll know what I’m talking about if you click here - that screen has such a tiny footprint.

So if you end up receiving this present from me in the near future, expect some semi-inappropriate pictures of myself as well as some random pictures of baby ducks - they’re the cutest! Oh also, don’t worry… this isn’t a default “mass present send-off.” But the thing is… IT COULD BE. LOL.

YAY digital on the go! :)

TomTom is a GoGo! (All Things Chill (Special*Dark)) by Spec

tomtom 3rd

From previous tweet:

Looking to pull the trigger on the TomTom ONE 3rd edition. Anyone else have a (cheap) recommendation? 2 minutes ago from Twitterrific

Amazon link here. I’ll be paying $249.95 for a simple GPS device that has:

Millions of points of interest
TomTom MapShare instant map updates
Pocket-sized design; 3.5-inch touchscreen with 2D and 3D views
Turn-by-turn spoken directions

After deciding not to get the iPod Touch (between Liana and I, we have 4), I’m totally fiending for something with a touch screen. That, and I don’t want to be lost in Seattle ever again. Hee hee.

After doing some research, I learned that the 3rd revision of the gps device also has a “map share” function that was currently only on their more advanced models (via Crave @ Cnet). The You Tube video posted above gives a great explanation of how that works. Even though driving around Seattle wasn’t such a huge headache the second time we were there, I’m sure having a gadget like this would save us some headaches in the future.

Like I said before, I’ll be pulling the trigger on the sale later this afternoon. I need to dig around the Internets for a while and make sure I’m getting the best bang for the buck. Do you have a recommendation? I’ll be able to blog faster in Seattle if I don’t get lost in Portland! LOL.

GPS. YES! :)

Electronics Overload (All Things Chill (Special*Dark)) by Spec

juggle elec

The new HD (Seagate Barracuda 7200.10) is 75% formatted, Nero is installing for my new DVD burner (LITE-ON DVD + - R Burner with LightScribe Technology) and Jason is updating the firmware for the Slingbox: Tuner. I’d say that things are going quite well for so much new technology arriving @ my door step at the same time. Hee hee.

Overwhelmed? What, me worry? :)

~Spec

Update: From the Slingbox FAQ:

If there’s any other device connected to your home network that identifies itself as a “router” (check the manufacturer’s label, probably on the bottom or the back of the unit) then you have a multiple-router network. In that case, for your Slingbox to work outside of your home, you must find every router between your Slingbox and “the outside world,” and configure each one so that it works with your Slingbox.

Jason is configuring router #3. You’re my hero man. LOL.

Vizio on the Horizion? (All Things Chill (Special*Dark)) by Spec

vx32l

After much deliberation, I have decided to purchase a television. Maybe. LOL. I thought I was living just fine without one, but some people think otherwise. I’ll probably go with the 32′’ Vizio VX32L HDTV (for $599). I’m very partial to “best bang for the buckers“, which is why I own a lot of “cool enough, but not too expensive” gear sittin’ around my apt. Also, I don’t think my apartment could fit anything bigger. Hee hee. Why wait? I tend to sit on big ticket electronic purchases for the following reasons:

I like playing the waiting game between upgrades.
It’s like being a monkey jumping from branch to branch to get the most perfect-est yellow banana. Or something. LOL.

I like watching my savings account auto-deduct a small chunk of my paycheck into one ginormous payoff.
It takes a while, but it feels like coins magically turn into paper monies!!!

I like talking to as many people (friends and experts) about the subject to make sure that I’m getting the best deal.
Sure I get to learn a lot, but ultimately… this annoys my friends enough to the point that *they* have to buy it too… thus alleviating the purchasing guilt on my part. MWMWMAHAHA.

I like wanting stuff, but being strong enough not to act on impulse purchases.
This is sometimes more fulfilling than buying the gadget… which is good when you WANT it, but sucks when you BUY it.

Waiting 6 months and picking it up without thinking twice.
This is different from an impulse purchase because it has passed the 6 month barrier. In my own little world of nonsense… impulse < 6 months. The time also degrades the effect of my internal "do I really NEED this" second guessing.

So there it is. There are more reasons of course, but those are the most “non-LOOKIJUSTWANNABUYITKTHXBYE” explanations that came to mind. Sounds like a good deal, but with all the audio / coax / video (for the Wii / Xbox 360) cables, I’ll be spending a lot more than that. SIGH. But YAY! But SIGH. Hee hee.

YAY TV! :)

Na-Na-Na-Nano! (All Things Chill (Special*Dark)) by Spec

RED IPOD NANO

Larger view here. You might already be familiar with (1) my (2) nano (3) saga (4), but it has happened… AGAIN. Will I be able to break the casing and actually KEEP it? Will I actually use it as much as I’d like to think I would? How many minutes will it take for me to fill up 4GBs worth of pictures and music? Will I ever go with Liana and signup for a membership @ her gym? Do I like torturing myself by keeping it in its pristine packaging? DUN DUN DUNNNNNNNNNNNNN…

iPod nano (PRODUCT) RED
Nike + Apple module
Nike Sport Armband

All the answers and more… same Spec time, same Spec channel. :)

Lost Phone, Buy Intermediary Phone, Wait for iPhone (All Things Chill (Special*Dark)) by Spec

nokia 6030

I like totally lost my cell phone in a cab a few days ago while celebrating Lien’s birthday at the Cat Cloooob. Work-a-holics + Bottle service + Heineken after Heineken + 80’s night can do that. Whoops. So, the next (horrible, horrible) morning, I walked over to my friendly neighborhood T-mobile store and asked for a new SIM card. This is how the conversation went, starring Gary the T-Mobile associate & Herschell (that’s me) the T-Mobile customer!

Gary: How can I help you?
Herschell: Hello sir, I need a SIM card. I believe I got inebriated and misplaced my portable communication device in a transportation vehicle.
Gary: Word up homey. A new SIM card is $20…
*eyes get shifty*
…but I can sell you a phone AND a SIM card AND a $10 prepaid card for $30.
Herschell: OH WORD? Ok, Imma motivate to do that. I gots acres of skrilla… sittin’ on so much ice I’m getting frostbite just thinkin’ ’bouty ’bouty. NAAHHHMEAN?
Gary: Uhh, ok.
Herschell: WORD IS BORN SON!

If you didn’t notice, I added some street flava to make the story interesting. Phone + SIM card + $10 prepaid card to spend on ringtones / games / pictures for around $32 - tax included. It’s actually not a bad phone! LOL. I was expecting cheap-o cheap-o, but it’s actually a small, durable throw-around phone (with IM!). I’ll be completely honest here: I treat all my gadgets with kids gloves in the beginning… but the ones that I keep around for everyday use have to withstand being tossed around in my man-purse with other random things while I trek a lil’ more of the bay area.

I’m not saying that I’m in love with this phone. I could have traded up and gotten that semi-new Dwane Wade Sidekick (ooh white and khaki) or the “not so bad not so great” Wifi+Bluetooth T-Mobile Dash, but since I’m waiting with all the other Apple fanboys (and fangirls) for the iPhone, which is kinda sorta coming out soon (thanks Jacqui!)… well it just wouldn’t be worth it. Ok, done. LOL.

YAY Phone! :)

Do Multi-Function Printers Really Function? (All Things Chill (Special*Dark)) by Spec

photosmart C3180

I just bought the HP Photosmart C3180 All in One Printer/Scanner/Copier for around $80 because I uhhh… need a Printer / Scanner / Copier. I’m not into multi-function gadgets, since they seem to excel @ only one facet of their features list… but I figure that I’ll need to use all 3 anyway for casual use. The reviews look good for everyday operation, but photo / graphic design printing is somewhat lacking. I’m not concerned since I’ll be using it for quick recipe print outs, as well as random coupons & certificates that I get from the I’net anyway.

We all know what happens to naughty electronics (updated!). Anyone have horror stories about this product?

I hope not, for the printer’s sake. :)
