I’m taking the train to the ‘burbs today to celebrate a 2-year-old’s birthday. YAY. That means, face painting, magic tricks and LOTS OF FOOD. We’re talking massive quantities of lutong Pinoy (Filipino cooking) here, peoples. I’m excited!
So, hopefully the lil’ kiddies will like me… there’s nothing like going to a birthday party and getting the cold shoulder. And eating cake alone in the corner. While the other kids laugh and play. And you sigh in that very same corner that you ate your cake and hope that someone will invite you to have fun with them. Or at the very least an adult who makes them play with you. It’s not the best way of making friends, but you make them nonetheless, right? I JUST WANT TO BELOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG.

Incubus’ newest album, Light Grenades, is absolutely wonderful. The band is just too good @ being relevant in my life. The first track, Quicksand, possesses an ethereal ambiance that makes you feel uneasy and hopeful @ the same damn time. I love the way it just melts into track #2: A Kiss to Send Us Off. My favorite part of the song?

First date. Second date @ Destino. She was feelin’ Peruvian, so I oblidged. I knew James, the owner / exec, chef, from a demo back in September, and I finally had a chance to stop by and chill. The restaurant itself had a very intimate decor, perfect for first meetings and informal gatherings.
We started off with Pisco sours, mojitos (on par with *that* bar in Chicago), chicken empanadas, ahi tuna / quinoa ceviche (!!!) and chile rellenos. All tapas style. All delicious. HOORAY for shared plates! If you’re ever in SF, check out James’ place… its the closest thing to visiting Peru you can get… well without *actually* visiting there. Hee hee.
Lots of good food, wonderful company…
